Our theme this year at the SprySpace Podcast is Social Media For Good. Our theme for April is Using Social Media for our Environment.
This week, we were lucky enough to interview the wonderful Joe McNeil who is an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (Lakota/Dakota/Nakota) and the Sage Power Authority, which manages the Anpetu Wi Wind Farm.
Some excerpts from the podcast:
Joe: “For us [Lakota], everything is a church. The minute you wake up and take the breath of life, that spirit that’s in the air, and the spirit is in the sun and the wind, you know, everything is a relative. And that’s how we believe. So we transfer that belief into how we’re building the wind farm.”
Joe: “In social media right now, everything’s coming up coming out, we’re teaching more broadly, not just from one tribe . . . It is coming from all the tribes. And it’s important for us, because if we don’t get grounded in a thought, or belief, that puts us in touch with our commonality, which is the earth, then we’re going to destroy each other, we’re on that road.”
